This blog post talks about how you can use Virtual Box to help with Php development on laptop. I have personally tried that solution and works great, as long as you have enough of hardware resources(usually disk IO and RAM seems to be the bottleneck) to support it. If you guys have any other alternative please leave a comment.
Since there are dozens of posts on becoming a better developer, but no single post with all the advice you need, perhaps, you'll find this short guide useful.
A lot of people give suggestions on how to improve your website or blog. Whether it is via SEO or design suggestions. Not many tell you what is going to destroy your website. I may be a little extreme but there are several pet peeves (as do many in the web design world) have that can truly turn your site from great to lame. An interesting service that tells the worth of the website in real time. It somehow calculates the price based on the no. of links associated with your site. Webmaster check it out for fun.
This post says it all. The killer for me is Not Being Honest About Your Needs. This is always the one that I have struggle with my self as I keep on creating requirements and buy accordingly and later find out that i didn't need them or was not used at all. Do you find the same issue?
This has been a question of debate ever since, how do you effectively measure the work done by a programmer? Do you count the no. of lines, statements etc. Check out this comic strip..

However, reading and writing XML in PHP doesn't have to be a daunting task. First, you need to learn a little about XML -- what it is and what it's used for. Then, you need to learn how to read and write XML in PHP, which you can do in many ways.
The other day I was reviewing XP practices and came accross this interesting scoop about differences between Scrum and XP. As the author mentions, XP and Scrum are very aligned but have subtle yet important differences and I agree with those. It worth a read.
